Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management
The Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management of Orpacific University of Technology aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the underlying management principles of hotels in the international hotel industry, as well as practical skillset for employment in the hotel industries.
Careers. The range of jobs in the hotel industry is broad; resident manager, management trainees, sales and marketing managers, and front office managers are examples. Resorts also have similar jobs; however larger resorts will have greater job opportunities and require more assistants in all areas.
The airlines and cruise industry are major travel industry employers too, offering a variety of jobs at many levels, ranging from entry level to top management.
Other major employers are food service, rental car companies, travel agents, tour operators, tourism and hospitality education, recreation and leisure, meeting planners, and the gaming industry.
Competency Training Approach. The Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management, like all other programs of Orpacific University of Technology, are designed and implemented using a competency-based approach. The modules we offer are in line with that proposed by major hotel chains and hotel associations. Moreover, for each of our module, we have published an associated competency standard, which defines the module learning outcomes with associated performance criteria, and the underpinning knowledge to achieve those learning outcomes. One major difference of Orpacific with most traditional universities is the training and assessment methodology. Most traditional universities teach the underpinning knowledge and assess what is taught through a closed pen and paper examination. A candidate who achieved the pass percentage is then claimed to have achieved the learning outcome of the module, which of course cannot be true most of the time.
Orpacific uses a problem-based approach. We of course teach the underpinning knowledge. But instead of a closed pen and paper examination of the taught knowledge, we design projects or problems and guide students to apply the knowledge learned into practice through the projects or problems; directly guiding the students to realise the module learning outcomes. Our assessment is a direct measurement of the performance of the learning outcome by the candidate. Candidates who did not performed the project correctly are given feedback to correct their mistakes. Orpacific ensures every candidate Orpacific certifies has achieved the learning outcomes 100%, not just a pass percentage point.
Orpacific emphasizes performance, presentations, articulations in all the assessments. We guide you through the perfection of 100s of hours of presentation. Our method transforms shy self-consious students into confident, articulate professionals, the defining trait for a life long successful career. Non-native English speaker? Our 100s of hours of presentation training will turn any tongue-tied non-native English speaking student into a proficient orator at the end of the program.
Evidence Based Certification. Under Orpacific competency based assessments, evidences of candidates performing tasks are directly archived as multimedia recordings of demonstrations, and/or presentations. These, together with any other evidences such as reports and oral interviews are presented as a portfolio. The sets of portfolio of each candidate, with comments of the assessors, at the conclusion of the entire programme, are organized into a Graduating Digital Portfolio DVD, and this DVD is an integral part of the degree scroll. Prospective employers can now clearly see the capability of the candidate when they perform employment evaluation. Compared with a job applicant from a traditional university, with only a transcript listing the modules taken and associated grades,, the Opracific graduate has a clear advantage as a potential practice oriented, relevant worker. The Orpacific certification will get you through the door, the rest is up to you. However with our superb, performace-based training, we are very certain you will shine in every interview.
Orpacific candidates can even apply for an oversea job, without the usual disadvantages such as not being able to be present for an interview.
Orpacific's ACCREDITATION is not only a statement that its programs meet academic and professional standards, and on the average, most graduates are competent. At Orpacific, every graduate carries with him/her the evidences that he/she is competent, as measured against published competency standards.
