Orpacific Open-Source Graduation Portfolio
Most of you would have resumes. You may also have seen the resumes of others. Most resumes would include a long list of skills and capabilities that the author of the resume possesses. Most job applicants would presume that having a long list is an advantage, and indeed if you do not list something that you have heard about and had spent an hour reading about, would mean you do not even know the existence of that subject matter. So it goes. The end result is that, most resumes that are submitted in job applications are remarkably similar; the candidates know everything under the sun in the sector.
If you attend a high profile university such as MIT, and Stanford, the confidence of the prospective employers in your capability would be very high. But of course these universities are very exclusive, and getting admitted is in itself a big challenge, beside the cost of studying in such an institute.
If you attend a less well known university, then really the confidence of the employers would be a lot less. After all, most of us know that they are many once-reputable universities, which as a result of funding cuts have resorted to trimming academic standards in order to avoid bankruptcy. Indeed you never know whether a currently reputable institution would one day, as a result of financial pressure, starts to cut corners in the future. If that happens, a qualification of that institution issued prior to the corner cutting would also be adversely affected. Accreditation does not mean very much today.
We, at Orpacific University of Technology, are committed to a high standard. We are a new generation university. We are committed to maintaining a high standard in our certification. We publish our standards. There is nothing to hide.
Our standards are absolute, not relative. We do not mark on the curve. We are not committed to graduating any student that does not meet our standard. We require all our students to perform at least at our published standard in each and every of the required modules before we certify them. Each and every of our students have to work hard to learn and perform, to earn our certification. All our students, when certified competent, are really competent, and they have nothing to hide too.
We have an excellent set of tools that allows students to record the progress of their projects as they go through them, in digital multimedia format. They can easily turn on our tools to record the demonstration of a particular milestone of their project, for example, how you create the tables of a database. All these multimedia recordings are then conveniently uploaded to their e-portfolio on their Orpacific account. Offical assessment are performed on the e-portfolio, and feedback given. Students who do not meet the standard of competence, as defined in our standards document, will have to re-do the projects until our standards are met.
When a student completes all requirements, the system will automatically collate these recordings, together with sample lessons of the courses that the students had attended, into a navigate-able Graduation Digital Portfolio DVD. It contains all the evidence showing a student'scompetency as claimed in the qualification. Prospective employer may not want to review every minute of all the recordings ¨C hundreds of hours, but he can literally select to view evidence of any competency claimed. We provide a complete Open Source system. Whoever we certified, anyone is free to verify at source our commitment to quality.
It is easy for someone to put up a one hour show. But if it is 130 hours, it cannot just be a show. Students, employers and parents can rest assure our Graduation Digital Portfolio DVD will be the most authoritative evidence of any claimed competence, more so than any piece of paper would give, whatever the institution's name is on it.
