Master of Science

Orpacific Master of Science(MSc) is a degree by research. A candidate must conduct independent research in the area of study, and shall present a written thesis and an oral multimedia recorded presentation for examination. The thesis and presentation must report research results that clearly show that the candidate has mastery over the area of study.

A candidate is also expected to conduct bi-monthly research progress seminars, and the seminar must be recorded using Orpacific's multimedia recording tools and be uploaded to the candidate's digital portfolio portal. These recorded research progress seminars shall be tracked and assessed by the candidate's Graduate Study Committee. These are formal assessments and are in addition to the final written thesis and oral presentation.

The candidate will also have to do a final oral defence to the Graduate Study Committee.

While there is no mandantory course work requirements, each candidate will be evaluated on a case by case basis upon admission to determine the degree of proficiency in areas related to the candidate's intended area of specialisation. For areas that are deemed essential for the smooth progress of the candidate's research, and if the candidate is deemed weak in those areas, course work may be prescribed. The candidate will then have to successfully fulfill the prescribed course work before beginning research work.

Application Procedure

Candidate shall submit a formal application to Orpacific. Application form may be downloaded here. For Orpacific to consider your application, please provide all information as required in the application form. In addition you may provide as much information as possible. Orpacific will consider your application positively if you can submit a complete portfolio of your achievements to date.

Once all information is received, your application shall be reviewed. We may schedule an interview. If your application is successful, you shall receive a letter of offer, with detailed information on acceptance and enrolment procedure.

Study Procedure

Upon enrolment, you shall be assigned a thesis advisor. Your thesis advisor shall schedule with you an initial meeting (may be virtual) where he will evaluate your proficiency in the intended area of study. You may be prescribed a series of courses that you will have to take before you begin your research formally. One of the prescribed course is an independent study course, the "Literature Survey" module, which you must complete within the prescribed time frame.

During your research, you are expected to keep in closed contact with your assigned supervisor. The typical frequency is once a week. You will also have to do a research progress seminar once every two month. These seminars shall be recorded using Orpacific multimedia archiving tool and be uploaded to your digital portfolio portal, and made available to the Graduate Study Committee. The recordings are due at the end of February, April, June, August, October and December.

You are expected to publish your research work, and the minimum requirement that you must achieve before proceeding to the presentation of your final thesis to the Graduate Study Committee is one accepted conference proceeding papers in international conferences.

Upon successful completion of all examinations, you shall be conferred the Master of Science degree. All the archived multimedia presentation that you have uploaded to your digital portfolio portal shall be organised into a Personal Graduating Digital Portfolio (PGDP) DVD and be presented to you. Your degree scroll would contain an imprint notifying readers that the scroll is only complete with the PGDP DVD, and the PCDP DVD contains all the evidences that the holder of the qualification is certified to be competent.

A relevant good bachelor degree.

Proficient in written or spoken English. A test shall be conducted and candidate found not to meet the standard for English proficiency will be required to attend English enhancement program before proceeding to candidature.
